The Spirit reveals itself to those who seek with a child’s heart..

Having been told by his parents to go and speak to his grandfather, the boy stepped through the door and into the dim room. His grandfather sat on a couch before a window, golden shafts of light falling in slanted strips across the floor. The scent of incense hung in the air.

The boy shifted uncomfortably as he took a seat across from him, unsettled by the heavy incense and the way the air seemed to hum. But he didn’t back out. “Grandpa?”

The grandfather turned toward him, eyes steady. “Yes,” he said. “What is it?”

“I want to know about God,” said the boy.

“You know he exists?”

“I think so,” the boy replied, uncertain.

The grandfather leaned back, nodding. “He does. He created the universe—and everything in it.”

The boy thought about it. “Does God have a family?” he asked, quizzically.

“Yes,” said the grandfather. “He has a son. Do you know who that is?”

The boy looked down, brow furrowed. “Jesus?”

“Yes. And Jesus is also God.”

“So…God is two people?”

The grandfather smiled. “They are one, though they come to us in different ways.”

The boy frowned slightly. “That’s hard to understand.” He sat back, slightly deflated.

The grandfather leaned forward. “There’s something more,” he said. “There’s a third person who is also God. Do you know who the Holy Spirit is?”

The boy’s voice came out quieter now. “Who?”

The grandfather’s gaze didn’t waver. “You,” he said.
